42: Returning to the Path

The Probability of True or False behavior

In Physics the amplitude of the wave squared equals the probability of occurrence.

Amplitude2 = Probability

With this in mind let us review our Diagrams in a little more detail.

Each of the variables, i.e. t, Fi and T, in the equation could be said to represent the amplitude of behavior waves. For instance on a trivial level, for many the amplitude of Sleep would be 7 hours for the 24 hour daily cycle. To get the probability of occurrence we merely square the amplitude of behavior. This yields the following equation.

t2 = T2 - F2 -2TFi

Represented geometrically as:

In English: each of these variables, i.e. T2 , F2 , t2 , f2 , represent Probability vectors –

    The probability that a Human = Person + Being will engage in true or false behavior -

        Will experience the Present directly or instead be lost in Time -

    The probability that the Human will be focused on the moment at hand

        Or be lost day dreaming/nightmaring about the past or future.

Anything that pulls you to the Moment is Good

    And anything that draws you away is Bad -

        This according to our underlying assumptions.

While circumstantial at best, this is a good rough estimate of where we’re going.

    In Music, Tai Chi, Art, Life, we hope to be there where it’s happening -

        Which is right here – Now.

Problems when the Probability of False Behavior is High

We represent the probability of False behavior or False state of Being as P(F). This would include not paying attention to your work, as well as, not paying attention to your life.

P(F) = the probability of false behavior or state of Being.

And what does paying attention mean, but self reflection - i.e. reflecting upon the behavior of your Person, in the context of his or her environment - reflecting upon the differences between Being and Person, the Inner Soul and Outer Shell.

Paying attention = Self Reflection

Indeed the Outer Shell seems to have stolen Will from the Soul, the Inner Being, to serve his ends. This is why Self Reflection is a must - to Differentiate the Shell from the Soul/Self, which is the root of Direct Experience. Liberate the Soul and we are free to breathe.

The larger P(F) is, the more likely that the Human under the influence of his Person will:

    1) exist in a state of constant distraction or

    2) perform actions counter productive to

        a) his survival as an Organism or

        b) to his mental well Being or

        c) both.

The Human with a large probability of false behavior, P(F), can’t concentrate enough to enjoy just Being Alive. Further, they participate in stupid behavior that endangers not only their physical health, but their peace of Mind as well. An example is the Human who is so involved in his quest for materialism that enjoying a simple sunset or a beautiful dinner is impossible because of anxiety about ‘having enough money’.

Balance is what we seek instead. The quest is to have a Mind that is quiet enough to allow Being to luxuriate in the Present - Wallow in the Now.

One leads us off the Path - the other Returns us

Let us turn this around and spin it. Time to examine the projected meaning of the two imaginary sections, iFT and TiF - the ones in the T2 chart from the first page of this chapter Paraphrasing Alice in Wonderland - One gets you into trouble and the other gets you out - or One leads us off the Path while the other Returns us.

To understand this mish mash, let us look at the Algebra of our Pollution equation.

t = T - if

These represent the amplitudes of the variety of behaviors and states of Being mentioned above. (Data Stream Momentum probably quantifies these amplitudes. This topic is covered thoroughly in a work of the same name.) If we square this quantity we get the Probability vectors.

P(t) = t2= (T - iF) * (T- iF)

      = T2 - iFT - TiF - F2

      = P(T) - P(i) - P(F)

These represent the probability of occurrence. P(t) represents the total probability of behavior of the Human. P(T) equals the probability of true behavior or Being. P(F) equals the probability of false behavior, while P(i) represents the possibility of imaginary behavior. P(i) is the sum of our imaginary vectors, iFT + TiF. If the commutative property for multiplication, i.e. Mixture, holds then we get:

P(i) = -iFT - TiF = -2iTF.

Polarity of Person suggests polarity of Imaginary World

We are going to suggest that the property doesn’t hold because our Person is, by nature, polarized. On the other hand Being is, by nature, not polarized. This dynamic, i.e. between polarity and transcendence, is one of the key struggles in our Lives as Humans.

We suggest that because our Person is polarized that P(i), the Probability of Imaginary behavior, is also polarized. Thus, instead of a doubled chance of imaginary behavior, we have, according to the vector metaphor of behavior or being probabilities, two opposite directions for our imaginary vector, P(i).

Have they locked me up yet?

For clarity let us make some definitions.

      iFT = P(iF)                  TiF = P(iT)

      P(iT) = P(iF)    TiF = -iFT

These Definitions just reflect the message of the chart below.

Except for the Probability notation the chart below is the same.

Let us illustrate the point of these symbols with this mini story.

Joe goes down the Wrong Path but finds his way back

Joe was going down the Correct Path,

    But then, as is common, he mistakenly took a Side Path

        That took him away from his goal.

He proceeded for a while on the wrong Path,

    Absent-mindedly, without paying attention, as it were -

    Or perhaps an honest mistake -

    Or even a Heavenly test -

        They are really hard to tell apart.

Anyway Joe began paying attention and noticed that all the signs are wrong.

He begins to realize that his Side Path is taking him far from his goal.

He immediately backtracks to avoid wasting any more time.

He eventually reaches the main trail again -

Hopefully he’ll still have time to reach shelter before dusk,

    When all the unknown dangers begin to emerge.

__

Joe was on the main Path, P(T). Due to lack of attention or Divine Design, he veered onto a sidetrack, P(iF ). The size of the sidetrack represents the time that he wandered before realizing he was lost. Of course the back track, P(iT) equals the sidetrack, P(iF), but moves in an opposite direction. The time wasted is the Probability of false behavior, P(F) = F2= t2 - T2. He hopes he makes it back in time. Sometimes delays are inconsequential, other times disasters, perhaps permanently killing the Journey. The Threshold of Generation is not reached. The Firing is unsuccessful. Transformation is not achieved.

Pay Attention or Cultivate Conscious Awareness

The points are: Pay Attention so you don’t lose your Way. However, if you lose your Way as you inevitably will - the Signposts aren’t Clear - you won’t have wandered too far off the track. Consequently you don’t have to backtrack too far and don’t lose too much Time or Energy - jeopardizing the Firing, the Mission, the Journey, whatever.

So P(T) keeps you on the Right Direction on the Path. P(F) sends you Backwards on the Path - wasting time and energy. P(iF) sends you on a Side Path in an imaginary direction - into Oblivion. P(iT) brings you back to the Main Path.

Hence the point is: The imaginary impulses pull one off the Path and also get one back on the Path. To be specific - the Mind complex has created the fantasy of a Person with Emotional Reactions to the surrounding world - so now Mind must deconstruct it.

It is not enough to head back for the Main Trail - Too much ground will be lost in rough terrain - A short cut turning out to be impossible - Must go back the way you came - Use the Mind to obliterate the Universes Mind has created. Otherwise they never go away.

Sometimes Rewiring is Essential

The Mind is into hardwiring - Saves a lot of time and energy - Efficient. We have been hard wired to swallow, breath, stand, walk and talk. This allows Mind to focus on the Path, rather than getting lost in trivia. However sometimes the hardwiring is inherently flawed and inefficient. Perhaps the way we ‘automatically’ stand is leading to back problems. Perhaps the way we ‘automatically’ talk and communicate leads to interpersonal problems. Perhaps the way we ‘automatically’ behave is ruining our life. Then we must go in and rewire - perhaps starting from scratch. Anyway only Mind is capable of taking apart the Hardwiring Mind has Created.

Indeed this whole paper is an attempt by Mind to deconstruct the faulty underlying assumptions that Mind has created. Mind vs. Mind.
